Inspired by the early '90s heritage indoor court model, the New Balance Numeric 288 is modernized with a premium suede/mesh upper and gum rubber outsole. The ultimate casual shoe is a must-have for comfortable, all-day, every day wear with reinforcements designed to withstand the wear and tear associated with skateboarding.
I was pretty excited about getting these shoes. The overall look is reminiscent of the popular nike killshots, but these come with more color options. Unfortunately, there are some strange styling decisions that hold these back from being excellent.
The main issue for me is the excessive padding around the ankle. These make the back half shoe's profile look a bit bulbous. NB has some models (e.g. the 420 or 620) that have the more minimal ankle padding and read more would imo have been a better option here. The second, more minor point is that the tongue is a bit too long for these.
Finally, the shoes are very stiff out of the box. I assume they'll wear in to become more comfortable, but just be forewarned. read less
